A Little About Me
I began my own health journey years ago. I was plagued by chronic pain from a muscle and nerve condition, crippling weight gain from medications, and constant discomfort from feeling crappy all the time. I had been diagnosed as infertile due to severe PCOS, I was insulin resistant, and losing even the smallest bit of weight was a struggle for me. I went through medication after medication. I went on insane diets and I exercised until my pain left me lying in bed. Still, my health declined. I’d begun to accept that my life was simply going to be that way forever. I eventually found myself in a situation where I began changing my lifestyle, almost without thinking about it. I had recently started living with my now-husband, who had a much healthier lifestyle and way of eating, and because of that I started eating what he ate and doing what he did.
Amazingly, my problems began to resolve. I lost weight, I started being able to manage my pain, and my hormone issues seemed to be getting better. When this happened I decided that I needed to figure out why this was happening. How had I gone through so much trying to get better only to have resolution come out of nowhere, when I was least expecting it? What I began to learn was that: health is a lot simpler than most of us believe, the old saying “you are what you eat” is truer than most of us realize, and that getting better and losing weight doesn’t always have to mean medication or hardcore, restrictive dieting. Two years after my health journey initially began, I got the surprise that truly led me to pursue this career: I found out I was pregnant. After being diagnosed as infertile by multiple OB’s, trying medications and hormone therapy, going through multiple miscarriages, and coming to terms with the fact that I would never have children of my own, I was pregnant. I went on to have a healthy baby boy who is now close to 2 years old. I eventually learned that the changes I made to my health caused a chain reaction that eventually led me to being able to get pregnant. I decided that, if there was a way, I had to learn more and use what I learned to help others. After that, it wasn’t long until I found my way to health coaching.
I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and over 100 dietary theories – Ayurveda, gluten-free, Paleo, raw, vegan, macrobiotics, and everything in between.
